You've just seen how Chess Club Manager© can
be used to print handouts from the Chess Workouts© that are
installed on the same computer. Now we'll show you the most powerful
teaching feature built in to the program - the ability to use it
to track - and reward - your student's progress through the entire Chess Workouts curriculum!
We've already seen some of the other motivational features built into Chess Club Manager that give you the ability to reward students based on either chess playing skills (the Club Ratings, Performance Award Certificates) or participation effort (Bonus Pooints, Participation Award Certificates). Now you'll see how Think Like A King gives you a third way to reward students - based solely upon learning effort, regardless of how good a chess player they ever happen to become.
Every
page that's completed in a Chess Workout earns the user some Workout
Points. If you're using the Think Like A King Network version, all the points that any student earns are tracked and stored in one central database. This means that you can use Chess Club Manager to monitor every student's progress - and reward them for learning effort. (If you aren't using the Network version, or if some students read the Workouts on their home computers, don't worry - you can still get their learning progress data no matter where they work and enter it into the system. So every child can be rewarded - and motivated to keep on learning)!
As students read through the Chess Workouts, every chapter they complete earns them promotions through the Thinking Belts Learning Ladder. The Thinking Belts are just like Karate Belts, and players earn promotions all the way up to a Black Belt - in Thinking!
When you click the Thinking Belts button on the Coach screen you get to the Thinking Belts Management screen. Here you can see the overall progress for any student. For instance, in the sample group of students below, we can see that Barbara Aaron has earned both a White and Yellow Belt - because she's finished reading volume 1 of the Chess Workouts - Tactical Thinking.
If you want to see anyone's progress through an individual Workout Volume, just select that title from the popup menu at the top of the screen. A new screen appears. Every checkmark you see means a chapter was read and a passing score obtained. A '-' sign means that a chapter was done, but not enough Workout points were earned to pass. (Note that you can set your 'passing score' threshold at the top right of the Thinking Belts screen. If player's don't pass the first time through, they can always go back and try that chapter again).
So the power of Chess Club Manager©
combined with the incredibly effective Chess Workouts©, offers
you a comprehensive scholastic chess learning system, complete with the ability to precisely track - and reward - learning progress for everyone.
We said earlier that even when students are using the Chess Workouts on their computers at home you can still get progress reports that let you easily add that data to your school database. How
do kids get the Workouts to use at home? We've even made that simple!
Check out the Think Like A King® 'Learn and Earn' Program, and see how you can get every child learning better chess
(and better thinking) - and earn free premiums for your school to
boot!
You've
reached the end of the Chess Club Manager© on-screen Demo. We've shown
you the heart - but by no means all! - of the program. If you want
to try the program for yourself, you can download
a Demo version now. You can even view the Think Like A King Quick Tour - an in-depth video tutorial of most of the features of Think Like A King.
Be
sure to learn about the Chess
Workouts© as well, and see just how much better
these "books on disk" can be at engaging kids to read,
and learn, chess. When you combine the Chess Workouts© and
Chess Club Manager©, all of your students will learn to Think
Like A King®!!!
